Twitter India has promoted Taranjeet Singh, the current head of ad sales and marketing, as the new Country Director, reports Exchange4media. In his role, Singh will lead the Twitter India team by creating new business strategies, driving audience engagement and growth, and partnering with new brands for ads. He will mainly look into the news politics, sports and entertainment segment. Prior to this, Singh used to lead marketing and sales for Twitter India’s advertisers and brands across several sectors. Before joining Twitter India, Singh worked with BBC Worldwide as its Sales Director for South Asia operation for almost 3 years. He also had two other roles at BBC spanning over 8 years including Head of advertising sales, and Regional manager (India). Other companies he worked with include Outlook and The Pioneer, where Singh held various sales and managerial positions. Twitter India executives exit and layoffs In India, Parminder Singh, Twitter’s Managing Director for Southeast Asia, MENA and India, had quit the company in November last year. Parminder had joined the company in November 2013. In the same month, Rishi Jaitly, India head, also quit the company. The top-level exits also came after laid off 9% of its workforce in October 2016, mainly in sales, partnerships and marketing. In September 2016, it also cut 20 jobs and shut down it's Bangalore global engineering operations. Twitter user metric and financials - Twitter reported 328 million monthly active users (MAUs) globally in Q1 2017, up 6% from the same quarter last year.
