Motorbike taxi company Baxi gets into cab aggregation with deals with unions

Ola and Uber have more competitors coming in now. Online motorbike taxi company Baxi is looking to get into cab aggregation and has signed up with various taxi unions in Delhi, Ghaziabad, Gurgaon, Mumbai, Pune, Chennai and Bengaluru. Baxi's partner app will now allow cab drivers part of unions to sign up on the app. "What we noticed during the driver protests across cities, is that they weren't able to sustain it as they needed to get back to work," Rohit Koshy, entrepreneur in residence at the company told MediaNama. "We thought that driver's livelihoods should not get affected during the protests and they could instead use Baxi's app to get rides and fares," he added. He added that Baxi will not be charging drivers for using the app, for perpetuity. Instead, they will charge the passengers a nominal convenience fee for booking rides using the mobile application. Koshy did not elaborate when they would start charging the fee said they would not start in the immediate future. Baxi says that they will be charging customer Rs 9 per kilometer and Rs 1 per minute for waiting time. It has a base fare of Rs 50 for starting a cab trip. Currently, Baxi has 5,000 drivers who have signed up for their service.
