Cab-hailing service Uber has a new car rental service called UberHIRE which will allow users to hire a cab for up to 12 hours. UberHIRE will now be available in New Delhi, Bangalore, Chennai, Mumbai, Pune, Ahmedabad, Vizag and Nagpur after a pilot in Kochi.

Here’s what the new service will offer:

– UberHIRE will have the Maruti Swift Dzire, Toyota Etios, Maruti Ertiga and Toyota Innova as vehicles that consumers can hire.
– The service will be available between 4 AM and 8 PM on all days of the week.
– The company says that the new service will be limited to the city areas but riders will be allowed to travel up to 20 kms in a service area.
– The minimum fare is Rs 500 which covers up to 2 hours or 30 kms. Following this, riders will be charged Rs 2 per minute and Rs 12 per kilometer. The cancellation charge is Rs 100.

Uber’s rival Ola launched  Ola Rentals which allows users to rent a car on hourly packages back in June 2016. Ola will charge a base fare of Rs 750 for 4 hours and a distance of 40 kms. Ola Rentals includes Toyota Etios, Tata Indigo and Maruti Swift Dzire, all cars under its Mini category.

Other services launched: Last month, Uber was planning to launch UberEATS, its standalone on-demand meal delivery app in India. The company is currently taking user input by asking them to list their favourite restaurants in their city, other than independently getting restaurants and cab drivers onboard.

Meanwhile, Uber and Ola ‘s carpooling services are under the scanner in Bangalore as the contract permit licence only allows for picking and dropping from start to destination with no stops in the middle during a single trip. Car pool rides are permissible under the stage carriage permit that allows companies to charge based on stages of a trip.
