Truecall appoints Arun Sarin to its board
Truecaller has appointed Arun Sarin to its advisory board, reports Economic Times. Sarin had joined the board of Ola Cabs as well in July last year. He was the CEO of the Vodafone Group for 5 years and serves as an advisor on the boards of Cisco Systems, Charles Schwab, Blackhawk Networks and Safeway, Inc. He also served as a senior advisor at the private equity firm KKR.
Last month, Truecaller updated its filtering algorithm to narrow down its spam list to a regional level. Previously the company filtered the list on a national level, however, it mentions that India sees more than 300 million spam calls per month, so it narrowed it down on a regional basis.
Paytm’s payments bank partnerships head Vikas Purohit quits
Vikas Purohit, Paytm’s head of partnerships for its payments bank, has quit the company, reports VCCircle. Purohit’s LinkedIn profile does not reflect the change. MediaNama has reached out to Paytm for a confirmation and will update this if we hear from them. Economic Times reports that Purohit is starting his own venture.
In January, Paytm had appointed Vikas Purohit in a leadership position for its payments bank, and said it planned to hire 3,000 people for the same business. Purohit was the director of fashion at Amazon before he joined Paytm. Prior to that, he worked as the COO of Planet Retail, head of retail at Reliance Brands, head of business operations at Tommy Hilfiger and brand initiatives manager at Madura Garments.
Previous hires and resignations: In January, with Purohit, Paytm had also appointed Varun Khullar as head of partnerships for its payments bank. Khullar would lead partnerships and build partners in insurance companies, banks and nonbanking financial institutions. In the same month, Amit Lakhotia, VP of payments at Paytm resigned, with plans to start his own company. In March, Paytm appointed Bhushan Patil as its new president to focus on international expansion for Paytm.
Ross Hoffman appointed as Twitter’s VP of global media
Twitter has appointed Ross Hoffman as its VP of global media, reports Recode. Hoffman has been at Twitter since 2010, where he has worked as a media partnerships manager, brand strategist, head of brand strategy East and UK, director of brand strategy of US and as senior director of global brand strategy. Before that, he has worked with YouTube, Google and William Morris Agency. According to the report, Hoffman replaces Nathan Hubbard who quit last month.
5 executives leave the company: In January, Alex Roetter, Twitter’s SVP of engineering, Brian Schipper, head of human resources, Katie Stanton, VP of global media and Kevin Weil, SVP of Products, quit the company.
CEO appointment: In October last year, Twitter appointed Jack Dorsey for his second term as the CEO of the company. He was appointed the interim chief executive after ex-CEO Dick Costolo stepped down from the company in June, after five years in the position.
