Flipkart’s chief product officer Punit Soni resigns

Punit Soni, chief product officer Flipkart, has resigned after a year's stint at the ecommerce company. Soni was appointed to the role in March 2015. A company spokesperson confirmed the development and said that Friday would be his last working day. Flipkart declined to give a statement regarding his departure. Soni was widely responsible for pushing Flipkart's app-only strategy. Shortly after Soni took over, Flipkart and Myntra shut down their mobile websites and redirected users to the Google Play Store or the iOS’ App Store to download the application. However, in November 2015, both Flipkart and Myntra restarted their mobile sites via a web app. Prior to Flipkart, Soni had been serving in an advisory role at Google for the past six months. He had quit as VP of Product Management at Motorola Mobility in September 2014, after over two years with the division. Soni had first joined Google as a Product Manager in June 2007, and had since served in various roles including as Lead Product Manager for Google+ Games and Mobile for 2 years. He has also had stints at Intel Capital, Cadence Design Systems and Softface Inc and Avanti Corporation. At Flipkart, Soni reported to Muskesh Bansal, chairman of Myntra and head of the commerce division. In February, Mukesh Bansal and long time Flipkart employee Ankit Nagori (who served as chief business officer) too resigned to start their own ventures.
