The Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI) has named Kunal Shah, co-founder and CEO of FreeCharge as the new chairman of IAMAI. The move comes following Nishant Rao’s move to join Freshdesk as the global chief operating officer, from Linkedin.
In addition, IAMAI also announced Vishwas Patel, CEO of payment gateway CCAvenue as the new treasurer.
In April 2015, FreeCharge was acquired by Snapdeal for a reported value of $450 million. Post acquisition, FreeCharge continues to be an independent entity under Shah’s leadership.
Patel, the founder and CEO of Avenues India Private Limited, launched the company’s first initiative, CCAvenue in September 2001. CCAvenue provides payment gateway services to thousands of eMerchants.
Earlier this month, IAMAI, in its submission to TRAI’s consultation paper, has said differential pricing for data usage for accessing different websites, applications and platforms by telecom operators should not be allowed as it violates the principles of Net Neutrality.
Other appointments at FreeCharge
In December, FreeCharge appointed Anshul Kheterpal as its chief financial officer. Kheterpal will be responsible for the digital payments business strategies at FreeCharge and Snapdeal. Prior to joining FreeCharge, Kheterpal was the CFO of Airtel Money for 2 years, where he was likely in charge of setting up the payments bank in principle.
In September, the company appointed Sudeep Tandon as chief business officer of the company. Tandon would be responsible for corporate strategy and strategic tie ups of the company, and report to Kunal Shah, CEO and co-founder of FreeCharge.
