Sony LIV has partnered with Fortumo to offer operator billing on the platform. This will enable users to pay for movies on Sony LIV through their prepaid or postpaid mobile accounts with Airtel, Vodafone, Idea or Aircel.

Note that Multi Screen Media’s video on demand service Sony LIV launched paid subscriptions just last week, starting with the Hindi movies category. The service launched with 400-500 movies, and would be available over the web and Android & iOS apps.

Web exclusive content: In October, Sony LIV launched its second web exclusive show called Shutter, after having launched its first web exclusive show called #LoveBytes the previous month. Earlier this month, the company also said it would broadcast Pro Wrestling League on 3 of its TV channels, as well as stream it on Sony LIV.

Other developments in carrier billing:

– Rovio, maker of Angry Birds game, entered into a carrier billing deal with Idea Cellular

– In December last year, Microsoft enabled carrier billing on Windows Store in India with Idea Cellular, allowing Idea subscribers buy Windows phone apps through this payment option.

– In October last year, carrier billing service Boku acquired competitor Mopay for an undisclosed amount.

– In March last year, Gameloft started offering its old and existing games, as part of the subscription and as an inaugural offer, with Idea via carrier billing.
