Media conglomerate Viacom will be launching its own video-on-demand (VOD) platform called Viacom Play Plex in the fourth quarter of 2015, reports Indiantelevision.com. The platform will offer a suite of mobile TV apps which will allow its distribution partners to offer smartphone and tablet users around the world access to the best content from all its international TV brands, anytime and anywhere. The Viacom Play Plex apps will be available in180 international territories in which Viacom owns and operates TV channels, including India. Viacom Play Plex will have a separate app for each of Viacom's international TV channel brands i.e. Comedy Central, MTV, Nickelodeon, Paramount Channel and BET. The platform will also have an will also offer live TV from its local channels and give access to games on Nick Play. The report adds that Viacom is also looking for new distribution partners for the Viacom Play Plex apps, including mobile network operators. Competition in India - In August, video streaming service HOOQ expanded its library and signed a multi-year deal with Sun TV. HOOQ also added over 1,000 Shemaroo video titles on its platform. Shemaroo would provide movies across genres and languages and will include films, TV shows and fitness videos like Hunterrr, The Dirty Picture, Ishqiya, Don, Shilpa’s Yoga and Bipasha’s Fit & Fabulous. – In July, digital entertainment company Hungama launched HungamaPlay, an application for streaming SD and HD movies on iOS and Android.
