2.83 Million Mobile Number Portability Requests In India In August 2014

Porting requests were submitted for 2.83 million connections in the month of August 2014, according to the Indian Telecom regulator TRAI. This is down 0.8% from 2.86 million porting requests reported in July 2014. Note that India has a total mobile connection base of 924.31 million connections (807.30 million active) as of August 2014. For the month of August, the maximum number of requests in Zone-I (North and West India) were received in Mumbai at 0.22 million, followed by Rajasthan at 0.22 million and Gujarat at 0.19 million. Jammu & Kashmir which has one of the lowest user base, continues to receive the lowest number of porting requests at 1,493. Note that TRAI does not provide any operator-wise breakdown for these number porting requests. In Zone-II (South and East India), Karnataka continues to lead with 0.3 million number porting requests till date, followed by Andhra Pradesh which received 0.27 million requests and Tamil Nadu which received 0.2 million requests. North East circle saw 4,676 number porting requests for the month, up from 3,914 requests in the previous month.
