Air India launches mobile app for Android
Air India has launched a mobile app which enables users to book airline tickets while on the go, reports IBNLive. The app is currently available only for Android with plans to extend it to iOS in the works. Along with the app, the airline also formally opened an account on Twitter.
The app currently enables users to book domestic flights operated by Air India, check and view current and previous bookings, cancel bookings, request wheelchair and check in within 48 hours of departure. The app also offers information regarding baggage, travel information, special offers, special meal requests and contact details.
Printvenue.com launches an iOS app
Rocket Internet-backed online printing solutions provider Printvenue.com has launched a new iOS app, which it claims works exactly like its website. The app currently has no Android counterpart, with no timeline on if and when it will be released.
The app lets users upload pictures they want to imprint of their products and also place orders directly through the app, while keeping them updated on their transactions, via an inbuilt Push notification system. It also has an integrated Facebook login system, letting users sign-in without a separate account. The app is currently available for both iOS devices, the iPhone and the iPad.
The German incubator launched Printvenue in India back in 2012. Last month, the company had launched operations in Australia and had revealed plans of expanding to Southeast Asia and the Middle East in the near future. Printvenue started its international foray last year by setting up an office in Singapore in June 2013. It also claimed that 15% of its total revenues came from Singapore, in January this year.
Function Space launches Android based smartphone app
The app will grant its users complete access to the discussion-based community at Function Space and will provide them with real-time updates on the latest discussion and opinion on the website. The app also contains a news section that provides information on novel scientific concepts and other topics to increase awareness among its users. The app claims it covers all the subtopics on Maths, Computer Science and Physics ranging from the high school level to research level.
Function Space had raised seed funding from Nexus Venture Partners, in April this year. Following the investment, Nexus Ventures Partners co-founder and MD Sandeep Singhal joined the company’s board.
IRCTC launches its official Android app
The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation Limited (IRCTC), has released its official Android application via Google Play, reports AndroidOS. The app called IRCTC Connect is free to download.
The app lets travellers search for and book rail tickets, check existing reservations, cancel reservations and get upcoming journey alerts. It will use existing IRCTC website login credentials to work and will also let users create a new account from within the app. The app does not work from 8AM to 12 noon everyday, just like other IRCTC apps or third party websites that offer train bookings in partnership with IRCTC.
The Hindu Business Line launches an iPhone app
The Hindu Business Line launched a new iPhone app recently, apparently following the requests from many readers. The website did not mention however, if and when an Android counterpart will be available.
The app currently displays breaking news, top stories and opinions, on a customizable home screen. It offers updates on commodities, stock market and currencies along with advice and opinions on investment, gadgets and business. The app can also display the latest news via Push notifications and lets users mark articles as ‘favourites’ to read offline. It also has a sharing feature which enables users to share articles with friends via social media, email etc., and also lets them post comments and replies.
Quikr partners Microsoft to launch Windows Phone app
Online classifieds platform Quikr, has partnered with Microsoft to launch the Quikr app on the Windows Phone Store. According to the company, it worked closely with Microsoft to make the design appeal to Windows phone users.
The app will feature automatic detection of a user’s location to show ads from the user’s city, let users browse and filter products in various categories, and facilitate contact between buyers and sellers via call, messengers, social networks or email. The app will also enable its users to click a photograph using their smartphone, and post ads for free under various categories on Quikr. The company already has apps for both, Android and iOS platforms.
