Google+ head Vic Gundotra leaves the company

Vic Gundotra, Google's senior vice president for social and head of Google+, has announced that he is leaving Google after an eight year stint with the company. However, there is currently no information on where he is headed next. David Besbris, Google's current vice president of Engineering is taking over from Gundotra as the new Google+ head. Gundotra had joined Google in 2007 as its Vice President of Engineering, where he was responsible for leading the company's mobile app development and developer relations team. Following this, he was involved in building Google's social networking site Google+. Prior to Google, Gundotra was with Microsoft for about 15 years where he worked as the General Manager for Microsoft's developer outreach efforts for products like Windows Vista, Visual Studio, Microsoft Office, Microsoft CRM, and Windows Mobile among others. What Happens to Google+? While Google CEO Larry page has told Re/code that they will continue investing heavily on Google+ and a TechCrunch report cites sources to suggest Google+ is now becoming more of a platform than a product. That way, it may not compete with Facebook or Twitter, but Google has however denied this statement. The report also adds that Google is reshuffling the Google+ teams with other departments like Android and there is no longer a mandate to integrate Google products to Google+. Hopefully this means that Google will now stop forcing Google+ down our throats.
