Chinese smartphone company XiaoMi is launching in India very soon, its global vice president, and former Google VP Hugo Barra told CNet. From what we have heard the launch could be as early as next month. In India, the company will set up an office and partner with telcos to sell its devices. Barra said that it will also sell its devices here through its website. The company makes most of its money from its online ecosystem, which according to Barra, allows Xiaomi to maintain its strategy of selling its smartphones at a price that is almost close to cost. However he says that the company is not targeting low end of the market when its products are released in India. Barra was apparently in India earlier this week. On the official XiaoMi India forum, the company made a post asking for volunteers to help the company translate its ROM into Hindi. It is not clear if this for XiaoMi India phone launch in India or just for MIUI ROM that is available for most popular devices sold in India.
