Digest: Loop Telecom, passport service centres, ITI & DoT

Delhi court has dismissed a plea by Loop Telecom Limited requesting the court to refer a case related to 2G scam probe to Lok Adalat for settlement, reports PTI. Loop Telecom (LTL) had argued that the company was facing trial for the alleged offence under section 420 (cheating) and 120-B (criminal conspiracy). Essar Group promoters Ravi Ruia and Anshuman Ruia, Loop Telecom promoters Kiran Khaitan, her husband IP Khaitan and Essar Group Director (Strategy and Planning) Vikash Saraf are facing trial in the case along with three firms -- LTL, Loop Mobile India Ltd and Essar Tele Holding Ltd. * Passport services at Common Service Centres The Ministry of External Affairs is launching passport related services through the one lakh Common Services Centers (CSC) in rural areas. The CSC scheme for setting up of 100,000+ (One Lakh+) Internet enabled centers in rural areas was approved by the government in September 2006. The CSCs will help applicants filling and uploading of form, payment of applicable fee and scheduling of appointment for the visit to the Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) at a fee not exceeding Rs 100. The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has approved financial assistance of Rs 200 crore in the form of a soft loan to Indian Telephone Industries Ltd (ITI) which had incurred accumulated losses of Rs. 4,527 Crore till 31.03.2013.  The loan will be used for paying salary to its employees.
