T-Series To Abhay Deol: Our Contracts Are Not Illegal

T-Series has responded to allegations made by actor-turned producer Abhay Deol about questionable legal practices allegedly adopted by the company. He had alleged that the studio put up illegal clauses that artists did no agree with and because of this songs of his movie are not being sold or his movie promoted. Now, T-Series says that it acquired the music rights from Viacom18 without any encumbrances, with a clear understanding that Viacom will share the link agreements with authors and composers to complete the chain of title. The company said via a statement that none of its agreements are against the law and are in accordance with the provisions of the Copyright Act, 1957. The studio says that it held back on the release of the safeguard the interest of Viacom 18 from any unscrupulous claims and infringement proceedings. Here are the main points raised by T-Series - Viacom 18 has assigned these rights to us and have further indemnified us against any claims or losses and thus the onus of providing a clear chain of title lies with Viacom 18. - We are well within our rights to call upon producers to provide us with appropriate agreements with composers, lyricists and singers as we cannot acquire any rights from a person who has none to begin with. - We cannot be expected to release music when there is no clarity with respect to the rights granted to the producer. - We are not willing to get bowed down by undue pressure and release music…
