Free WiFi On Brigade Road, MG Road & Four More Locations In Bangalore Starting Tomorrow

Free WiFi hotspots called Namma WiFi will be functional on M G Road, Brigade Road and four other locations in Bangalore including Traffic and Transmit Management Centres (TTMCs) at Shanthinagar, Yeshwanthpur, Koramangala and CMH Road in Indiranagar from tomorrow, reports The Hindu. The report states that the government has tied up with D-VoiS, a private internet service provider, to execute the project and the service will be formally launched near Metro station on M.G. Road on Friday. D-VoiS has previously set up WiFi hotspots in Mantri Square mall, Bangalore and Manipal University. The company claims to have network presence in about 26 towns and cities in the country. Users can access the free WiFi by opening the Namma WiFi page on their browser. Once they key in their mobile numbers on that page, a password will be sent to their mobile phone. Using this password, internet can be accessed freely for 30 minutes every day at a speed of about 512 kbps. However, it is not clear if users will be charged beyond the 30 minutes limit. The report also states that there will be restrictions on accessing certain websites. The government plans to extend this service to 10 more places in Bangalore and also to other cities in Karnataka including Mysore, Mangalore, Hubli-Dharwad and some other towns in north Karnataka in the coming months. It is worth noting that this was a service proposed in the Karnataka budget for 2013-14.
