Truecaller Adds Twitter Integration; Launches In India First

India's the first country that Sweden-based global phone directory service Truecaller will roll out its social media integration in. Truecaller is an application that tells you details of the caller using social media information, and following a tie-up with Twitter, its new Android app will start displaying Twitter id of the caller, as well as one tweet the person from within the app. Twitter integration to iOS app will be added later on. Update: Techrunch reports that Truecaller is currently adding 1 million users per week and about 500,000 of those are from India. In total, Truecaller has more than 22 million users here, which makes up roughly one-third of its smartphone users. As on June 2012, 1.6 million of around 3.2 million of Truecallers users were Indian, and now that it has around 20 million users, one can imagine that a substantive number of Indians would be using the service. Till now Truecaller had access codes to Facebook, Twitter, Gmail, and LinkedIn accounts of its users. It is not clear how the company will be cross matching Twitter ids to users. It'll be interesting if Twitter is sharing the mobile numbers of Twitter users with Truecaller. It is also possible that the company is using email ids to cross match accounts. It needs to be remembered that the company was in trouble earlier this year when TrueCaller's database was hacked by Syrian Electronic Army hackers compromising millions of phone book records. That being the case, handing out so much information to one app…
