Update: JustDial’s Marketplace Goes Live; Adds Flower Delivery, Grocery Shopping & Others

Update: JustDial’s search plus services has now gone live. One can search for a product and browse through a list of vendors in their surroundings along with their offer price. 

The site currently allows users to sort these results based on location, distance, user ratings and price. One can then click on the ‘Buy Now’ button on their preferred product listing, provide the delivery address, enter the code sent by JustDial to their mobile phone and make the payment.

It currently offers payment options like credit and debit cards, netbanking, and cash on delivery, although at the time of writing this article, we were able to access only cash on delivery payment option to make a purchase.

JustDial informed that it will also shortly add a ‘Trust Factors’ tab to these listings which will provide ratings from one’s friends, overall ratings of the vendor and a JD verified stamp to help users make the purchase decision.

Besides this, the site has also introduced new services like flower delivery, doctor appointment, laundry pickup, grocery shopping and pharmacy supplies among others. While the flower delivery has been provided a separate section on the site, all the other services has been integrated to the respective vendor listings on the site which appears when users searches for a specific category.

For instance, the grocery shopping option appears when users search for grocery shops on JustDial, following which they can browse through the products offered by the vendor and place their order.

Earlier (December 5): Online and telephone business listings service JustDial has officially informed BSE that the company will be launching its services-focused online transaction platform called Search Plus Services for its users.

According to the filing, with this launch, JustDial intends to transition into a service provider facilitating transactions between consumers and providers of various products and services through an online platform. Just Dial expects that this online platform will significantly benefit SME’s offering various products and services.

Search Plus Services will facilitate the purchase of various branded goods such as mobile phones, camera, among others that would be sold by the neighborhood stores participating through the platform. The company has said that users could expect same day delivery since the local merchants will be delivering the products themselves. Just Dial will be neither holding inventory nor delivering the products. It will however be offering price difference between these vendors along with a rating system.

In an earlier report, we had mentioned that JustDial has already started educating the vendors on this service but there will be some initial time lag between vendors adopting the service. Until then, the service will work like a quick quote service wherein users can request for a quote and get competitive quotes from vendors through SMS/email.

It appears that JustDial is taking a lead generation based approach rather than a transaction based approach with Search Plus Services. JustDial gets more searches online than offline. However, most of its monetization comes through offline lead generation. With the launch of the online platform, JustDial is attempting to monetize its online search queries by giving an online presence even to its offline vendors.

Services to be launched: Other services such as ordering of flowers, groceries and fixing appointments with doctors, bus ticketing, rail ticketing, air ticketing, and hotel booking, among others are also to be introduced on the platform on obtaining the necessary approvals.

Speaking during JustDial’s earnings conference call for the quarter ending September 30, 2013, JustDial founder and CEO VSS Mani had said that the company will not be advertising aggressively branding JustDial as the destination for booking air tickets, or hotels. Instead, JustDial intends to give its users with one single platform for all transactions.

The list of services to be launched will be announced by the company’s brand ambassador, Amitabh Bachchan at an official launch on December 7, 2013.

Mani also said that 40% of JustDial’s mobile Internet traffic comes from its mobile apps. JustDial currently offers mobile apps across AndroidiOS and BlackBerry. However, the increasing traffic does not affect their business since the monetization remains the same.

Live services: In its earnings report for the quarter ending Sep 30, 2013, JustDial had also mentioned that it has launched and is currently working on building products across various categories.

The company’s online food delivery service went live in August 2013, in the cities of Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Thane, Pune, Ahemdabad, Bangalore, Chennai, Coimbatore, Delhi, Faridabad, Ghaziabad, Gurgaon, Howrah, Hyderabad, Kolkata, and Noida. Subsequently, JustDial had also launched its movie listing service with ratings and reviews and online cab booking service. In May 2013, the company got listed on the BSE, fully subscribed with bids for more than 12 times the amount at hand.

Through Search Plus Services, JustDial is trying to enter segments that already have several players. Online food ordering segment has players like FoodPanda, JustEat, TastyKhana, among others while online cab booking service has players like Ola Cabs,  TaxiForSure.comSavaari Car Rental Pvt LtdYourCabs.com, among others.
