Porting requests were submitted for 2.29 million connections in the month of September 2013, according to the Indian Telecom regulator TRAI. This is a 11.26% decrease from 2.37 million porting requests reported in August 2013.

India has a total mobile connection base of 870.58 million connections (738.86 million active).

For the month of September, the maximum number of requests in Zone-I (North and West India) were received in Rajasthan at 0.29 million, followed by Gujarat at 0.2 million and Maharashtra at 1.58 million. Jammu & Kashmir which has one of the lowest user base, continues to receive the lowest number of porting requests at 453.

In Zone-II (South and East India), Karnataka leads with 0.19 million customers requesting for number porting till date, followed by Tamil Nadu which received 0.12 million requests and Madhya Pradesh which received 0.11 million requests. There were just 2,876 requests from the North East circle. Note that TRAI has not provided any operator wise breakdown for these number porting requests.
