Cube26, a US based natural vision and gesture control technology company, has partnered with six Indian smartphone OEMs including Micromax, Intex, Celkon, Zen, iBerry and Lemon Mobile. The partnership will allow these OEMs to include Cube26's gesture based capabilities on their handsets. Cube26 says these capabilities has already been integrated to the recently launched Micromax Canvas 4, iBerry Auxus Nuclea N1, with more phones in the works. Cube26 allows smartphones to use their touchscreen interface with touchless controls using Human Computer Interaction (HCI). It will provide features such as look away to pause on video player that automatically pauses when the user isn't watching, auto call which automatically triggers a phone call when a user brings the phone to their ear, and Touchless Swipe to answer allowing users to answer their phone without having to touch it. The company makes use of device's front facing camera to offer these features, indicating that only high end phones with a front facing camera will get these features. Video Demo: With local OEMs increasingly grabbing the smartphone market share (sub-$200 phones accounted for two-third of the total smartphone market according to IDC), it's become increasingly important for them to compete with international brands such as Samsung, who have done well in India. Hence, local OEMs also need to provide similar features. Besides this, handset manufacturers need to focus on software since there's little differentiation left in terms of hardware.
