Hari Nair, formerly VP Sales at Mauj, has joined Sony Music to head its digital business in India. According to his LinkedIn profile, Nair joined Sony Music in July 2013 as Director - Digital Business and will be responsible for digital business, products and operations. On being contacted a number of times last week, Nair didn't deny the development. Prior to joining Sony Music, Nair worked at Mauj as Head of Sales & Operations (A.V.P) where he managed sales, account, D2C products and content licencing. He has also worked with Mahindra Comviva at various positions, latest being Head - Western Region Operations, Soundbuzz India Pvt Ltd as Head - Project Management & Content Operations, Reliance Infocomm as project manager, among others. It's interesting to note the difference in hiring between a Saregama and Sony Music in India: Nair comes in from a mobile VAS background (although Soundbuzz was doing both web and mobile, things have changed), while Saregama had recently appointed a Internet industry execs: Avinash Mudaliar is among the former Web18 execs to join the venture. Saregama India had recently acknowledged that it will focus on its digital business after licensing physical right to Sony ADAC; Tips Industries also said it is looking to follow suit.
