Apple Q3-FY13: 31.2M iPhones & 14.6M iPads Sold; iPhone Sales In India Up 400%

Apple has reported declined profits for the quarter: $6.9 billion for the quarter ending June 30, 2013 (Q3-FY13), down 22% from $8.8 million profit in the same quarter last year (Q3-FY12).

The company posted total revenue of $35.3 billion for the quarter, registering a marginal 1% growth from $35 billion revenues in the same quarter last year. The Asia Pacific region contributed $2.05 billion of total Apple revenues for the quarter, down from $2.5 billion in Q3-FY12. Note that Asia Pacific revenues doesn’t include revenues from Greater China (China, Hong Kong and Taiwan) and Japan region, which is reported separately.

Device Sales: iPhone increases But iPad declines

iPhone: The iPhone sales increased year on year with the company selling 31.2 million iPhones for the quarter, up from 26 million iPhone sales in Q3-FY12. These sales accounted for $18.15 billion (51.4%) of total Apple revenues for the quarter. Last month, RCOM had launched the iPhone 5 on its network along with special tariff plans for new and old RCOM iPhone subscribers. During the conference call, Apple CEO Tim Cook said that iPhone sales has increased by more than 400% year on year in India during the quarter, with iPhone 5 being the most popular model and iPhone 4 also registering strong sales. However he didn’t disclose any specific numbers on the same.

iPad: The iPad sales however dipped year on year with the company selling 14.6 million iPads for the quarter, down from 17 million iPad sales in Q3-FY12. Note that this includes sales from both regular iPad and iPad Mini and the company hasn’t provided any breakup for the same. iPad sales accounted for $6.4 billion (18.1%) of total Apple revenues for the quarter.

Macs: Mac sales also continued to declined year on year, with the company selling 3.75 million Macs for the quarter, down from 4.02 million Mac sales in Q3-FY12. These sales accounted for $4.89 billion (13.9%) of total Apple revenues for the quarter.

iPod: The iPod sales declined significantly year on year, with the company selling 4.57 million iPods for the quarter, down from 6.75 million iPod sales in Q3-FY12. These sales accounted for $733 million (2.1%) of total Apple revenues for the quarter.

Software Sales

Apple has generated $3.99 billion revenues from software sales for the quarter, up from $3.23 billion revenue in Q3-FY12 but down 12% from $4.11 billion revenue in the previous quarter. Software sales includes revenues from sales on the iTunes Store, the App Store, the Mac App Store, and the iBookstore, and revenue from sales of AppleCare, licensing and other services. The segment accounted for 11.3% of total Apple revenues for the quarter.

Accessories

Apple has reported $1.18 billion revenue from accessories for the quarter, down from $1.23 billion revenue in Q3-FY12 and down from $1.38 billion revenue in the previous quarter. This includes revenues from sales of hardware peripherals and Apple-branded and third-party accessories for iPhone, iPad, Mac and iPod. The segment accounted for 3.3% of total Apple revenues for the quarter.
