Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd. and Reliance Communications Ltd. have signed an agreement worth Rs 12,000 crore for sharing RCOM's telecom towers infrastructure. With this agreement, Reliance Jio Infocomm will be able to use RCOM's 45,000 ground and rooftop based towers for its 4G service. The company also states that the agreement covers joint working arrangements to configure additional towers to be built at new locations. Just yesterday, there were reports that RIL has apparently postponed its 4G service rollout to 2014 due a change in the company’s strategy, in which it plans to own everything including the 4G network, equipment used and allied infrastructures. This agreement comes right after Reliance Jio Infocomm and RCOM had signed an agreement worth Rs 1,200 crore for sharing RCOM’s nationwide inter-city fibre optic network infrastructure. In April 2013 it had inked a international data connectivity agreement with Bharti Airtel allowing Reliance Jio to connect to the world’s major business hubs and ISPs, and will be crucial for Jio Infocomm since a majority of the Internet bandwidth consumption in India originates outside of India. It should be noted that RIL had acquired 95% stake in Infotel Broadband services, after it secured pan-India BWA Spectrum for Rs 12,847.7 crore during the 2010 BWA Auctions. RIL is the only company to have a pan-India BWA Spectrum in the country.
