Is Uber Looking To Enter India?

U.S based online cab service, Uber is launching in India and has already listed three job openings for a community manager, a general manager and an operations & logistics manager in Bangalore, reports NextBigWhat. Uber offers cab services with four types of vehicles namely taxi, SUVs, black cars and Uberx. While taxis are charged at standard taxi meter rates, the company has a different pricing for the other types of cars used. Consumers can presently book an Uber cab through their iPhone or Android app in some major cities of U.S, London, Toronto, Singapore, Rome, Sydney, Stockholm, among others at standard taxi meter rates along with $1 booking fee. The company has so far raised nearly $50 million to date with the most recent of $37 million round led by Menlo Ventures, according to a TechCrunch report. It is also worth noting that Uber is facing regulatory issues and several law suits in the United States for launching its services without the permission of their transportation authorities. It might become hard for Uber to launch in India if the company plans to start its Indian services also without procuring the required permits especially since vehicles require state specific permits. Stiff Competition In India? Uber is also likely to enter a market which has several online cab booking services already plying in the country.
