Delhi Metro Launches Online Smart Card Recharge Facility

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has launched an online recharge facility for smart card users at www.dmrcsmartcard.com. The organization has partnered with ICICI Bank to launch this automated fare collection process and ICICI Bank has also integrated its payment gateway to the website. The deal period or the financial terms of the partnership were however not disclosed. When we checked, we noticed that commuters can recharge their smart cards by providing requisite details like smart card ID, amount to be recharged and email address. We also noticed that the site currently offers only credit card and debit cards as payment options, however the organization does note it plans to introduce additional payment options like Net Banking, Prepaid cards, ATM payment and SMS payments in the future. One can also sign up for the service to recharge multiple smart cards and view previous transaction details for all the cards along with the transaction status. Add Value Machines: Following the online recharge, one has to head over to an Add Value Machines (AVM) present on select metro stations to complete the recharge process. The organization informs that 39 AVMs have been setup in 13 metro stations including Dilshad Garden, Shahadara, Welcome, Seelampur, Shastri Park, Pragati Maidan, Karkardooma, Nirman Vihar, Laxmi Nagar, Barakhamba Road, R K Ashram Marg, Jhandewalan and Rajendra Place and DMRC MD Mangu Singh hopes to install 100 such machines across metro stations in the forthcoming months, as indicated by a PTI report (via NDTV Gadgets) While this is quite an interesting initiative by DMRC, since it will allow smartcard users…
