25.66 Lakh Mobile Number Portability Requests In India In February 2013

25.66 Lakh subscribers submitted number porting requests in the month of February 2013, according to the Indian Telecom regulator TRAI. This is a 38.95% decline from 42.03 lakh porting requests reported in January 2013. However, this also means that only 2.57 million connections out of India’s out of a total connection base of 861.66 million connections (712.50 million active), sent port-out requests during the month. For the month of February, the maximum number of requests in Zone-I (North and West India) were received in Rajasthan at 2.86 lakh. Jammu & Kashmir registered the lowest number of requests at 557 but that is expected, since it has one of the lowest user base. Although its worth noting that the number of requests has declined by 78% in Jammu & Kashmir. Mumbai registered the highest growth in the number of requests for the month, registering a 30.6% growth. This was probably driven by the sudden Uninor shutdown in Mumbai. In Zone-II (South and East India), Karnataka leads, with 2.41 lakh customers requesting for number porting till date, followed by Andhra Pradesh, which received 2.13 lakh requests. There were just 4,360 requests from the North East circle. Note that TRAI has not provided operator wise information.
