Real estate and apartment management portal CommonFloor.com, has launched a Android app called CommonFloor Property India, that lets users search properties for buying or renting.

The app is currently available as a free download on the Google Play Store and the company also plans to launch an iOS app shortly.

App Features

When we checked, we noticed that the app allows one to search for a property or a project based whether they are buying a property or renting it. One can also search for a property based on the city, its location within the city, type of a property (apartment, villa, independent house, row house, and plot), number of rooms, budget and size of the property (in sq. ft).

We noticed that one can search for property listings within the app without registering for the service, however if they want to save their search results or post a new property listing, they would have to sign up for the service. One can register for the service by using their Facebook, Yahoo or Google account credentials or by filling up a simple form with requisite details from within the app.

One can click on any specific property listing to find out more details about it, including amenities available, approvals issued by local authorities, banks which can issue loans for purchase and floor plans. Interestingly, the app also enables one to calculate the distance of a specific property from the nearest school, hospital, mall, airport, railway station and restaurants among others.

GPS-Based Map Search: The app also offers a GPS based map search, which allows one to search for property listings on Google maps and then find directions to the property from their current location.

But what’s particularly noteworthy is that the app offers a augmented reality-based search functionality, which allows one to hold the app in camera mode and browse through property listings within 2.5 km radius of their curent location. While we weren’t able to find any property listing in Navi Mumbai at the time of writing this article, we were able to see few property listings in Bangalore.

One can click on these property listings to browse through more information about this listing, save the listing for future reference, share it via email to their friends and family or contact the property owner.

Besides this, the app also allows one to set alerts to receive property listings for the current location or any specific location, based on various parameters like property type, budget range and time period.

Other developments

In October 2012, Commonfloor had raised series-B funding from existing investor, Accel India and Tiger Global Management. The company had then said that it plans to use the new funds for expanding its operations across multiple cities, upgrading technology capabilities, hiring talent and for marketing purposes.

Recently, a Mumbai-based real estate portal Housing.co.in, had raised an undisclosed amount of angel investment. Housing.co.in is a location based rental property listing portal available as a web app and a mobile site. The company is currently operational only in Mumbai and its suburbs including Navi Mumbai. It claims to include only curated property listings on its portal.

Other property listing sites include Times Business Solutions’ property listing portal MagicBricks and Infoedge’s 99acres. Sulekha.com had launched Sulekha.com Property in October 2011, to offer property related information to users, including buy or sell property listings, rentals, information on localities and brokers, and others while generic classified portals like Quikr and Olx also have property listings.

Of this, only MagicBricks, SulekhaQuikr and Olx offer an Android app at the time of writing this article while 99Acres offers only a mobile optimized website.
