500 Startups Backed WalletKit Debuts Its Mobile Pass Builder Platform

Chennai-based WalletKit has opened up its platform for businesses to create, manage and distribute mobile passes, reports TechCrunch. The platform was previously in private beta. Offerings: Founded by Kevin Rajasekaran and Ramakanth Dorai, WalletKit provides businesses with a visual Do-It-Yourself pass building tool to design and deliver mobile passes. These passes include boarding passes, event tickets, store cards and digital coupons among others. The company also offers APIs for developers and had recently released its software development kit (SDK) in Java, Python and Ruby programming languages. Besides this, Walletkit also offers tools for businesses to track results and visualize user engagement with passes. The service is currently available on Apple's Passbook platform, but it plans to add more platforms like Google Wallet in the future. Pricing: WalletKit currently offers multeiple monthly plans depending on the number of passes sent by the business. At the time of writing this article, it charges $40 for 1000 passes, $160 for 2,500 passes, $360 for 5,000 passes, and $760 for 10,000 passes. WalletKit also offers a free plan through which businesses can send up to 500 passes for no cost and a 30 day free trial of all its plans. Funding: In November 2012, WalletKit was incubated to 500 Startups's Fall 2012 batch of its accelerator program, as part of which it had raised seed funding from 500 Startups. Cleartrip -Apple Passbook Integration: Earlier this month, online travel agent Cleartrip had started offering paperless tickets for flight, hotel and train bookings via Apple’s Passbook. These passes displayed important information about the traveler’s trip upfront with additional details on the reverse of the pass. The site…
