In the quarter where Microsoft released Windows 8, it has posted a total revenue of $21.46 billion for the period ending December 31, 2012, up 2.73% from $20.89 billion in the same quarter last year. Microsoft reported an operating income of $7.77 billion for the quarter, a 2.75% decline from $7.99 billion in Q2-FY12 and a net income of $6.38 billion for the quarter, a 3.6% decline from $6.62 billion in Q2-FY12. Microsoft however noted that these revenues include the net revenue deferral for its Windows Upgrade Offer, Office Upgrade Offer and Pre-sales, and the Entertainment and Devices Division Video Game Deferral, partially offset by the recognizing previously deferred revenue for Windows 8 pre-sales. The diluted earnings per share stood at 0.76, a 3% decline from 0.78 in Q2-FY12. Windows Division Microsoft's Windows Division has reported revenues of $5.88 billion, registering a significant 24% growth year-on-year (YoY) from $4.74 billion in Q2-FY12. However, following the adjustment for the net deferral of revenue for the Windows Upgrade Offer and the recognition of the previously deferred revenue from Windows 8 Pre-sales, the growth dips to 11% YoY. The division posted an operating profit of $3.29 billion for the quarter, up from $2.88 billion profit in Q2-FY12. Microsoft says it has sold 60 million Windows 8 licenses to date.
