India's largest telecom operator Bharti Airtel is appointing Manoj Kohli as its new Managing Director (MD), according to a BSE filing. The filing indicates that this appointment will be considered at Bharti Airtel's Board of Directors meeting scheduled tomorrow (February 1, 2013). Kohli currently heads Airtel's International operations as its CEO and serves as the Joint Managing Director of Bharti Airtel. Prior to his CEO (International) role, Kohli held multiple roles such as CEO & Joint MD, President & CEO, Head of Mobile Services business at Airtel. He's also had a 5 year stint at Escotel as its new Executive Director and CEO, a 16 years stint with DCM Ltd and stints at AlliedSignal/Honeywell. Gopal Vittal As Joint MD; Sunil Mittal As Executive Chairman According to the filing, Airtel Board will also be considering the appointment of Gopal Vittal as its Joint Managing Director and Additional Director while Sunil Bharti Mittal will taking over the role of Executive Chairman from his current role as Chairman & Managing Director of Bharti Airtel. This development follows the resignation of Sanjay Kapoor, CEO, Bharti Airtel - India & South Asia earlier in the month, following which Airtel had appointed Gopal Vittal as its new CEO for the Indian region while the South Asian operations which includes Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, went under Manoj Kohli, effective from March 1, 2013.
