LinkedIn India has appointed Nishant K Rao as a Country Manager for its India operations, reports Business Standard. He will replace Hari Krishnan, who has been moved into a larger role as the Managing Director of Asia- Pacific and Japan. At his new position, Rao will be responsible for scaling up LinkedIn’s operations in India.
LinkedIn claims that it has 18 million members in India, however, it’s not clear how many of them are active users. In April 2012, at its first B2B event in India, LinkedIn had informed that it has close to 14 million registered users from India, out of which 7 million are active users. Clearly, the number of LinkedIn India members is on rise.
Prior to joining as Country Manager in India, Nishant K Rao has been with LinkedIn since September 2011 as a Director, Business Operations – Head of Global Sales Strategy at LinkedIn’s headquarters in Mountain View. He has also worked with McKinsey, ARIBA Inc and was also one of the founding members of Epicentre Technologies.
Rediffusion- Y&R, a communication agency, has appointed Sam Ahmed as Vice Chairman and Chief Creative Officer. He will be based in Mumbai.
Ahmed has previously founded and managed Rockstar Entertainment for 7 Years as its CEO. He also founded Studio Central. Ahmed worked with Y&R as Creative Director for 14 years. In his career he has worked with brands such as Ford, Nestle, Pepsi, P&G, Colgate-Palmolive, Skoda, Jaguar, Sony Ericsson, HTC, Apple, World Gold Council, Citibank, Harvey Nichols, among others.
Recently, N Padmakumar, erstwhile national creative director at Rediffusion left the agency. Apart from that, D Rajappa President at Rediffusion Y&R also quit the agency, reports afaqs.
Sandeep Amar, Vice President – Mobile Marketing at One97 Communications, has put in his papers. He will be starting his own venture.
Amar had been with One97 Communications only for three months before he left to start his own startup. He had joined One97 Communication in October 2012. Amar had joined Times Group’s internet division in 2007, heading marketing at Times Business Solutions and leading Simplymarry.com and Ads2book.com. In 2009, he was made the Head of Marketing and Audience at Indiatimes*. He’s also had a brief stint with Indiatimes in 2003, and with The Times Group’s direct marketing team in 1997. He’s also worked with Zee Telefilms, Citigroup, and Hindustan Times in various roles.
Prior to handling the India operations, Sarker worked as Group Head, Global Network Products – APMEA at MasterCard. He was based in Singapore for the position. He has worked with companies such as GE Capital, Genpact India, Analec Infotech Private Limited, GE Equity, General Electric Company, and Price Waterhouse.
