CA Media LP, the Asian investment arm of The Chernin Group, LLC (TCG) has acquired a large non controlling stake in Graphic India, a comic book and animation company. Graphic India will now be jointly owned by Liquid Comics and CA Media. The company has also appointed Sharad Devaranjan as CEO of Graphic India. He will also remain Executive Chairman of Liquid Comics. In November 2010, The Chernin Group had launched CA Media, a company that was to “strategically build, manage, and operate media, entertainment, and technology businesses in Asia”, with a specific initial focus on India, China and Indonesia. Previously, CA Media had invested in Only Much Louder (OML), a media company which targets youth market through various entertainment properties including music festivals (NH7), television and web-based content. Launched in 2011 by Sharad Devarajan, Gotham Chopra and Suresh Seetharaman as a subsidiary of U.S based comic book company Liquid Comics, Graphic India is known for their mythological and superhero characters targeted towards the Indian youth. It also creates animated series, comic books, and associated media content. The company says that it will distribute its content across mobile and online devices, both within India and worldwide through its own digital platform as well as through distribution partners. As a part of the investment, CA Media will partner with Graphic India to create franchises for Graphic’s characters through multiple media within the Indian entertainment ecosystem.
