Sec 66A: Police Books Boy For Using Girl’s Photo, Anonymous Hacks BSNL Servers

An Ulhasnagar (Maharashtra) resident, Jagdish Patil, has been booked under Section 66 (A) of the IT Act, 2000, for using a girl's photo without authorization, reports NDTV. An FIR was filed by the girl's parents on December 2012, however, the incident took place August 26 this year. Patil sent a cake to the girl's house on her birthday with her photograph printed on the top of the cake. The girl's family had not ordered a cake and then decided to register a formal complaint at the Hill Line police station. In the police investigation, it was discovered that the cake was ordered from Ribbons and Balloons, and was sent through the shop's home delivery service. Patil had used his email id to place the order and send the girls photo. The police referred to the cyber crime cell to identify the boy's identity. The Hill Line police has booked Patil for using the girl's photo without authorization under the Section 66(a) of the IT ACT, 2000. Other developments: We had recently reported that around 1,630 people were arrested for cyber crimes registered under the Information Technology Act, 2000 and under sections of Indian Penal Code (IPC) in the year 2011. This year, we have seen instances people misusing the controversial Section 66(A) of the IT Act, 2000. Shaheen Dhada and Renu Srinivasan, from Palghar were arrested under Section 505 of the Indian Penal Code for posting an update on Facebook.
