53.61 Lakh Mobile Number Portability Requests In India In October 2012

53.61 Lakh subscribers submitted number porting requests till the month of October, 2012, according to the Indian Telecom regulator, TRAI. Mumbai and Karnataka showed the greatest increase in MNP requests month on month. This is up from 48.62 lakh porting requests till September 2012, an increase of 10.24% month on month. However, this also means that out of a total connection base of 904.22 million connections (703.94 million active), just 5.36 million connections sent port out requests during the month. The maximum number of requests in Zone-I(North and West India) were received in Maharashtra at 5 lakh. Jammu & Kashmir registered the lowest number of requests at 402 but that is expected, since it has one of the lowest user base. In Zone-II(South and East India), Karnataka leads, with 7 lakh customers requesting for number porting till date, followed by Andhra Pradesh, which received 4 lakh requests. There were just 14,378 requests from the North East circle. Note that TRAI has not provided operator wise information.
