Indiagames founder Vishal Gondal and Walt Disney India chief Ronnie Screwvala have invested an undisclosed amount in Catalog Educational Services Pvt Ltd. run MeraCareerGuide.com, according to a report by techcircle. The investment has not been confirmed by meracareerguide or any of the investors yet. We have written to Vishal Gondal asking for a confirmation and will update the post once we receive a response.

Founded in 2009, Meracareerguide is an online career counselling platform for students. Students can seek counselling from industry experts and career counselors through the site. The portal allows students to connect with industry experts and career counselors via emails, and IVR telephony. Apart from that, the portal also provides career assessment where it suggests students which stream they should choose based on questions answered by them. The portal’s career guidance packages are priced between Rs 499 to Rs 599.

Recently, Vishal Gondal had backed another startup in educational space, Examify (our review). Examify is an education focused online service that intends to use algorithms and crowd sourcing to generate intelligence around various examinations, allowing students to filter out important topics and questions.

This is not the first time the duo has invested together in a startup. In July 2012, Ronnie Screwvala’s Unilazer Ventures and Vishal Gondal’s FACT had invested an undisclosed amount of funding in Joule Consulting Pvt Ltd which operates the employment marketplace, OnContract.com (previously known as StaffOnContract.com).

Other players: We have seen a lot of activity in the education sector, however, a lot of them help students in getting the course content on various platforms. Careers360, a career counselor brand owned by Pathfinder publishing, had launched a new portal at studyabroad.careers360.com for students who want to abroad abroad. The portal answers the how, why, when, where, what for students who want to study abroad. In July 2012, career360 launched a career counseling portal targeted at engineering college aspirants at engineering.careers360.com. For the Engineering portal the company launched a Mock Counseling Engine, Campus Ambassador Program —  which helps students contribute College Reviews and stake holders engage students in Chat Sessions, counseling sessions etc.
