Pearson Launches Tablet Based Learning Solution For Schools

Pearson, the media group behind Financial Times, publishing house Penguin, and education brands like Longman, and Prentice Hall, has launched a new tablet-based education solution for schools in India, MX Touch. According to the company, the platform will give a greater number of school children, access to more effective personalised and collaborative digital learning with rich digital content, 3D animations, quizzes and videos. The MX Touch solution is compliant with the school syllabus and comes bundled with tablets at various price points – MX Touch variants are available in 7 and 10 inch tablets from the company’s preferred tablet manufacturers – the 7inch will be priced under Rs 7000, while the 10inch bundled pack will cost Rs 12000.

The solution also allows parents to monitor the academic progress of their children, with access to assignments, difficult lessons covered during school hours and archived assessments and tests, the company added.


MX Touch will be available in three versions: MX Touch – ActiveTouch, MX Touch – DigitALly and MX Touch – Ultimate.

– MX Touch – ActiveTouch offers pedagogically sound, graded digitised textbooks already loaded on the tablet. ActiveTouch offers four subjects — English, Science, Mathematics and Hindi — for classes 3 to 8. It features animations, videos from BBC Motion Gallery, and interactive activities and worksheets.

– MX Touch – DigitALly offers DigitALly Student Edition, another edition of Pearson’s patented teaching tool. DigitALly includes animations, videos, self-explanatory diagrams,  worksheets, quizzes and several hours of experiments for different subjects. MX Touch – DigitALly SE (student edition) can house an entire curriculum of a grade on a device and offers access to it not only within the classroom, but also outside and at home.

– MX Touch – Ultimate is a bundled version that includes MX Touch – ActiveTouch and MX Touch – DigitALly SE.

Pearson owns a majority 76% stake in TutorVista, which runs an online education service targeted at the International market in addition to offering technology-enabled education solutions and services for school businesses in India .


There are a large number of tablet based education solutions available in the Indian market. E-Learning company iProf Learning Solutions, also offers a personal education tablet device. It recently launched an online service, TheDigiLibrary.com, which offers free education content including video lectures, animation, notes, and other interactive content, in addition to premium services like 24X7 teaching assistance and home delivery of content on tablets and memory cards. It also offers an app for Android tablets that allows users to stream video content. The company offers bundled plans with tablets for which it has tied-up with device makers like HCL, Karbonn, and others.

EnableM, a mobile learning VAS company, had also launched Magic Pencil, a tablet-based education solution for higher education and distance education institutions.

Online publishing solutions provider Pressmart had also launched a tablet-based learning solution which allows schools and students to store and access books, study modules, assessments, and notices and also offer student, teacher, parent and admin modules to regulate the student’s school activity.

Edutor Technologiesalso offers its own education solution for Android tablets called ‘Augmented Classroom Solution (ACS)’ through which it offered learning material like digitized textbooks, multimedia material, interactive concept maps and assessments complementing the school syllabus on Android-based Tablets.
