Naukri: Hiring In Media, Internet & Mobile Down 3% In October 2012

According to Naukri.com‘s Job Speak Index, which is an indicator of job listings on its portal, the hiring activity in the Media sector (which includes Internet and Mobile sectors, according to the company’s classification) has decreased by 3% in October 2012, when compared to the hiring activity in September 2012. The Naukri Job Speak index for the sector stood at 911 for October 2012, down from 938 in September 2012 (pdf) and from 1049 in August 2012. Note that the index uses the total number of jobs in July 2008 as a base (of 1000). The overall Job Speak Index slightly improved (pdf) with the hiring activity in October 2012, being 3% higher when compared to September 2012. The job index stood at 1162, up from 1131 last month (pdf) and 1145 in August 2012. The company noted that it has witnessed minor improvements in sectoral hiring activity although the employment scene hasn't entirely improved in the country yet. Sectors: Naukri stated that almost all top industry sectors saw positive movements in their hiring levels for the month, as compared to September 2012. Banking and BPO sectors registered the highest growth in terms of hiring, with their hiring activity increasing by 15% and 11% respectively for the month. Auto and Telecom sector witnessed its recruitment activities increase by 6% respectively during the month, while the IT-Software, Construction and Insurance sector saw their hiring levels remaining steady during the month, as compared to hiring levels in September 2012.
