India Against Spam is an Android app which allows users to report spam text messages and calls to TRAI in a single click. The app is currently available on Google Play Store as a free download and is compatible with all Android devices running on Android 2.1 or later. This was first reported by My Portable World. Why this is particularly interesting is that while the facility to lodge complaints against unsolicited commercial communication to TRAI has been present for a while, the prescribed message format to lodge a complaint has been quite complicated until now. Users have to send an SMS to 1909 in the following format "COMP TEL NO XXXXXXXXXX; dd/mm/yy; Time in hh:mm; short description of Unsolicited Commercial Communication" where XXXXXXXXXX is the phone number or header of the SMS, from which the unsolicited commercial communication originated, for each such unsolicited communication. Earlier in the month, TRAI made the process a little easier by allowing users to simply forward the spam SMS to 1909 after appending the telephone number and date of receipt of the SMS but it can still be a bit complicated for regular users. On the other hand, this app allows users to lodge a complaint in a single click. How It Works? We tried the app on a Galaxy Nexus running on Android 4.2 and found it to be quite simple to use.
