Internet content delivery network Akamai Technologies has released its ‘State of the Internet’ report for the second quarter of 2012, which was generated based on the data gathered from the Akamai Intelligent Platform, and provides a sneak peek at statistics such as Internet penetration, mobile traffic and data consumption, global and regional connection speeds, and observed attack traffic, across the world. Download: Report | Press Release Avg Connection Speed: The average connection speed in India stood at 1.0 Mbps, up 4.6% from the previous quarter and 21% year-on-year (YoY). India is currently ranked 116th in terms of average connection speed and has the second lowest average connection speed among the Asian countries measured in the report, followed by Indonesia which has an average connection speed of 0.8 Mbps. In comparison, South Korea’s average connection speed stood at 14.2 Mbps, Japan’s average connection speed stood at 10.7 Mbps and Hong Kong’s average connection speed stood at 8.9 Mbps. The only countries which have a similar connection speeds to India were Philippines (1.2 Mbps), and China (1.5 Mbps). The global average connection speed is 3.0 Mbps, up 13% from 2.6 Mbps in the previous quarter and 15% year-on-year (YoY). The average peak connection speed in the country stood at 7.3 Mbps, a 5.7% increase from 6.9 Mbps in the previous quarter and 33% increase YoY.
