Opera July 2012: 66% Increase In Users, Data Usage Up 95% In India

Opera Software, the browser company, which brings out its State of the Mobile Web (SMW) report (pdf), tracking mobile browsing trends on the basis of Opera Mini (its mobile browser) usage, has reported that in July 2012, the consumer base of the Opera Mini and Opera Mobile browsers increased in unique users. Opera Mini offers claims to offer a desktop-like web experience on mobile devices. It compresses webpages by 90% which in turn minimising data usage and saving data related costs on mobile phones. Apart from that, it also offers features such as Speed Dial, tabbed browsing, password manager and social media integration. Opera Mini and Opera Mobile Users: Opera reported that a total of  205 million people used Opera Mini or Opera Mobile worldwide in July 2012. The Opera Mini servers (which do not process pages from Opera Mobile browsers) served 116 billion pages and compressed over 21 petabytes of data for Opera Mini users. In Asia Pacific, Opera reported that the share of Opera Mini smartphone users increased to 32% in July 2012. For the same period last year, Opera reported 9% increase in smartphone users. In India, Opera Mini reported a 66% increase in users and 80% increase in page views for the month of July 2012. Data usage also increased by 95 percent. However, Opera did not reveal the number of Opera Mini users in India. Opera also did not reveal any statistics for the break-up between smartphone users and feature phone users in India, which perhaps could have shed some light on smartphone…
