Trivone Digital Services, a digital media and content company, has launched a new sports-focused destination Khelnama.com. This site will join Trivone’s existing IT media properties like TechTree.com, Channel Times, CXOToday.com, SupportBiz and other media properties including the entertainment portal, chakpak.com and an automobile portal wheelsunplugged.com, which was acquired by the company in May 2012.
Trivone said that this new destination will provide news, views and insights across various sporting disciplines like Football, Hockey, Tennis and Golf on the local and International arena and International events like the forthcoming London Olympics. However, Subu Subramanyan, Founder and CEO of Trivone Digital Services, noted that the site’s coverage focus would primarily be on the local sporting activities at the grassroot level and on upcoming sporting personalities in the country across various disciplines, rather than International contests. He added that this launch was in line with the company’s strategy to focus on specific verticals and develop differentiated content.
At the time of writing this article, we observed that the site offers a mixture of news stories created by an in-house content team and sourced from news services like Reuters, ANI and IANS, commentaries, slideshows and lists.
The homepage features a carousel of the top stories, followed by the latest stories listed in the chronological order. There are two sidebars on the homepage, while the left sidebar features Commentaries, Editors’ pick, and a section called ‘What’s Your Point’ which lists stories which can evoke an opinion among users, the right sidebar features the most popular stories on the portal along with lists compiled by the in-house content team.
Users can also head over to view stories for any specific sport through a navigation bar on the top or through listings in the footer and there is a keyword search box at the top right corner of the portal which allows users to search for stories related to their search query. Further, each of these sections have several sub-sections including Gallery, News, Previews, Commentaries and Features and many more, and readers can sort the stories based on their freshness or highest comments.
One thing worth noting about the portal is the usage of various story formats and images across the site. While some news stories features just a single image, some personality based stories features an image gallery embedded to the story. Further, all the slideshows are jQuery based and users can browse through all the images in the gallery without reloading the story page multiple times.
That being said, we also noticed several pages missing from the portal. For instance, the ‘Contact’, ‘Advertise’ or even the ‘Newsletter’ page just reloaded the page when we clicked on the links. It’s good to see an India specific sports focused portal that features other sport and not just cricket.
*P.S – Khelnama is not connected with MediaNama :-P
