Samsung has reported (pdf) its quarterly earning for Q2 2012 with an operating profit of $5.86 billion up 79 percent year over year. It reported revenue of $41.5 billion which is up about $1.5 billion from last quarter, and up 21 percent year over year. The company reported gross profit of $15.48 million up by 40% year on year. Digital Business: Digital Media & Communications comprising the Consumer Electronics and IT & Mobile Communications business sectors accounted for 36.57 trillion won in sales, up 37 percent year on year. Its IT and Mobile division posted sales and operating profit of $21.11 million which is largely driven by its mobile handset segment which posted an operating profit of $18.02 million up by 75% year on year. Smartphones: The company recently reported that it sold 10 million Samsung Galaxy SIII units, its flagship model. The company reported that smartphone shipments increased quarter on quarter with a successful launch of Galaxy SIII and solid sales of Galaxy Note. The company also intends to put more money into its marketing campaign for its flagship model Samsung Galaxy SIII. The company intends to concentrate on smartphone devices like the SIII and Galaxy Note to maintain healthy profit margin. Featurephone: The company reported slowdown in shipment of feature phones due to demand slowdown amid weak seasonality. On Emerging markets: In its forward looking statement, Hyunjoon Kim, VP Mobile Communications business said that Samsung expects smartphone demand to grow in emerging market.
