Akhilesh Yadav’s Oath Ceremony To Be Live Streamed

The swearing-in ceremony of Akhilesh Yadav, the new Chief Minister-designate of Uttar Pradesh, will be live streamed on the Samajwadi Party’s website, the party's Facebook page, and its YouTube and DailyMotion channels. The stream will also be available for mobile viewing. We checked YouTube's Live section for upcoming events, and it indeed lists SP's official stream for the ceremony, commencing at 11 am on 15th Feb 2012. TV news channel, Star News will also offer its own live stream for the ceremony. Of late, political parties have started using the Internet both as a propaganda tool, and as a medium for reaching out to citizens, as well as to the media. The BJP (Bhartiya Janta Party) has been quite active on the front. It launched a dedicated internet tv channel, an Android app, and online donations among other initiatives. It even introduced an online application form for those interested in a party ticket. The other leading party, Indian National Congress, also launched a YouTube channel. However, it's interesting that a party like Samajwadi Party, which has a regional focus, is embracing the Internet. It is an indicator, that it won't be long before the internet gets acceptance as a medium of choice for all Political parties in India. It also makes more sense to use it, specially to reach out to the youth, who at times, are indifferent to politics as they don't see a connection.
