Cisco has launched pilots of its remote healthcare solution in the states of Madhya Pradesh and Karnataka under a public-private partnership model with the two state governments. Under the program, community and primary healthcare centres in Sehore and Gwalior in MP and Shimoga in Karnataka, will be connected to district hospitals, and patients will be able to access basic medical treatment and specialist consultations remotely through Cisco's video conferencing solution. While diagnostics can be conducted by paramedics at the helthcare centres consultation will be offered by Doctors at the hospital. In Madhya Pradesh, the pilot will be shortly extended to Datia and Chhindwara regions, taking the total number of community/primary health care centres across the four districts to eleven. In Karnataka, where the company has connected primary healthcare centres at Kuppagadde in Soraba Taluk and Guttiyadehalli in Thirthahalli Taluk to McGann hospital in Shimoga city, it intends to connect two more PHCs located at Antaragange in Bhadravathi Taluk and Kappanahalli in Shikaripura Taluk to the District Hospital. Last year, Cisco had announced a joint initiative with Apollo Hospitals to deploy Cisco's technology solutions in its operations, develop open healthcare IT standards and deploy solutions in India, Asia Pacific and other emerging markets. The initiative also focused on deploying a cost effective tele-medicine solution, integrating Cisco's desktop based Health Presence Extended Reach technology with Apollo Hospital's Medintegra.
