Airtel, much like the rest of the Indian telecom operators, has seen a substantive increase in the total number of customers (rather, connections). As you can tell from the chart below, while the number of customers has grown at a steady pace, the growth in number of minutes on network hasn't been as smooth, occasionally impacted by competitive activity on pricing of services. While minutes on network has grown, many telecom operators, including Airtel, Reliance Communications, Vodafone Essar and Idea Cellular have increased prices. It will be interesting to note, in the next few quarters, whether the price hike has an impact on minutes on network, as well as on subscriber addition.
