Eros International has appointed Rajesh Bahl, as Chief Operating Officer of Eros digital, the newly formed division of the company, with effect from 1st June 2011. According to a statement from the Eros, Bahl will oversee the development plans of the digital and new media arm of Eros International plc. Bahl was previously looking after the company’s digital business as Chief Digital Officer of Eros India since his appointment in March 2010. As COO, Bahl will report into Ricky Ghai, who was recently appointed as the CEO of Eros Digital.

Prior to joining Eros, Bahl was with Star India for three years, where he served as, according to his LinkedIn profile, AVP (Mobile Entertainment & Interactive Services) mobile business.

Eros had earlier announced that it is setting up an inhouse ‘Digital Asset Management’ initiative to digitize and catalog its movie library comprising of 2100+ films. The company plans to invest Rs. 5 crore to 7 crore on digitization, a process it expects will be completed by Q2 or Q3 of FY 2012. It has been in talks with mobile operators and digital cable companies for content partnerships and has also launched its own branded Subscription Video On Demand channels on DTH, IPTV and Digital Cable platforms.
