RTI: MTNL Delhi Has 5910 IPTV Connections, ARPPU Rs.298; Launches FTTH With FUP

As of February 2011, Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited's Delhi unit has 5910 IPTV subscribers in the city, with an Average Revenue Per Paying User (ARPPU) of Rs.298 per month, MediaNama has learned, via a Right to Information request filed with the government owned telecom operator. Note that MTNL has not given us a break-up of paying and free users, only average revenue per paid connection; the total number of users may include free or trial users. The total number connections has come down from its peak - MTNL Delhi registered the highest number of IPTV connections in March 2009 with 7741 connections and an average revenue per paying user of Rs.188.19, per month, correspondingly. The lowest number of connections were 5163, reported in August 2010, at an ARPPU of Rs. 256/month. The state owned telco registered the lowest ARPPU at Rs 180.84/month, with a corresponding connection count of 6049. The highest monthly ARPPU was registered in February 2011 at Rs.298.69. MTNL Delhi runs IPTV services through two vendors, namely Aksh and Smart Broadband (MyWay). On hindsight, we should have requested for data segmented by franchisee. We are also awaiting a response for IPTV data for Mumbai. We'll publish a chart with the IPTV data separately at MediaNama Charts. Launches FTTH With Fair Usage Policy Meanwhile, MTNL has launched Fibre to the home broadband services, through which it can offer download speeds of upto 10 Gbps, reportsTelecom Talk. The commercial launch will take place in a few weeks, according to the report.…
