TRAI Chairman, JS Sarna informed MediaNama, that the TRAI is going to come out with an announcement on the status of implementation of the SMS Spam Regulations in the next 15 days. When we asked him why the TRAI initially announced the roll out without considering factors like allocation of number series to Telemarketers, he replied that the regulatory body had only made the announcement after coordinating with the Department of Telecom (DoT) on various issues including number series, in October 2010. Although this comes as an assurance from the TRAI after it postponed the implementation of the new guidelines indefinitely, we hope that the blame game ends here and TRAI gives us a concrete final deadline to stop the menace of SMS Spam and unsolicited telemarketing calls.
