Update: We’ve received an email from UTV Corp Com clarifying that UTV New Media is the same as UTV Interactive. There’s no further comment from the company, but the inference to draw from this is that MK Anand has taken over as CEO of UTV Interactive from Manish Agarwal.
Earlier today: Senior level changes at UTV, on the digital front: MK Anand, CEO (Broadcasting) has been given additional charge as CEO (Interactive). Zarina Mehta, Chief Creative Officer (Broadcasting) will take on the additional responsibility as Chief Creative Officer (Interactive), while Lavina Tauro, Vice President will be Business Head (Voice Products) and Sameer Pitalwalla, Sr. Vice President is Business Head (3G). The entity, as per the announcement, will focus on interactive content across audio and video offerings on all platforms, particularly looking at leveraging 3G and 4G opportunities.
This is similar to the mandate of UTV New Media (which launched the voice based Audio Cinema product under TN Prabhu). So how does the mandate of UTV New Media change with this? (Update: it’s the same company, renamed)
Strangely, despite several attempts, UTV is not responding: We spoke with Anand, who said that Manish Agarwal (who was appointed CEO of UTV New Media in 2009, and was until recently reporting to UTV Founder and CEO Ronnie Screwvala) will be reporting to him, but asked us to contact UTV Corp Com for more details on Agarwal’s designation in the company and the roles. Agarwal also asked us to contact UTV Corp Com. UTV Corp Com hasn’t clarified since yesterday (though we’ve repeatedly been asked to wait for a response). Some questions that we’d asked:
What’s the relationship between UTV Interactive and UTV New Media (or is UTV New Media being renamed UTV Interactive)?
If UTV New Media is separate from UTV Interactive, then:
– Why two separate companies for digital?
– What is the difference in the areas of focus for UTV Interactive and UTV New Media?
Else, if UTV New Media and UTV Interactive are the same,
– What is Manish Agarwal’s role, if MK Anand is CEO
We’ll update in case anyone responds.
