A&E Television Networks and Network18 Group* have reached an agreement to form a joint venture, AETN-18 India, for launching the TV channels HISTORY, BIO, among others, in the Indian market. The joint venture between Network18 Group (51%) and AETN (49%) will be based in Mumbai, owned by AETN and ‘New TV18’ eventually, post the restructuring of the Network18 group (details here). The joint venture is subject to regulatory approval, and timeline for the launch of channels is yet to be announced. New York headquartered AETN is a joint venture between Disney-ABC Television Group,Hearst Corporation and NBC Universal, and owns the Pay TV channels - A&E Network, HISTORY, Lifetime, BIO, Crime & Investigation Network, Military History, Lifetime Movie Network, History International, History en espanol and Lifetime Real Women. Remember that Network18 recently formed a pan-India distribution joint venture with the Sun Group (Sun18) across platforms - Cable, DTH, IPTV, HITS and MMDS (Wireless Cable). These content deals will beef up its bouquet of channels (despite recent issues). Network18 has a penchant for alliances, with deals in the past with Viacom for Viacom18 (MTV, VH1, Nick), media company Lokmat for IBN-Lokmat, CNBC for CNBC-TV18, and CNN for CNN-IBN.
