Gemini Communications Acquires African WiMAX Co Rosy Blue Wireless For $20M

Gemini Communications, a Chennai based, public listed network integration and telecom company, announced today that it has acquired 100% stake in a little known African telecom operator called Rosy Blue Wireless. Rosy Blue Wireless holds 60% stake in joint ventures with local companies in Zambia, Malawi and Mozambique, each called Morse Communications, and not to be mistaken for the Florida, USA based cable infrastructure company with the same name. In all three countries, the company has been allotted 30MHz of WiMAX spectrum, and the company uses WiMAX for last mile access. According to BusinessLine the acquisition is valued at $20 million, and RBW is a part of the Antwerp based diamond jeweller Rosy Blue Group. The Rosy Blue Group sells diamonds under the brand name Orra. We could find no additional information online on either Rosy Blue Wireless or Morse Communications. Gemini's wholly owned subsidiary Pointred Telecom provides products to WiMax operators, and the company has said that the Morse's WiMAX rollout will take place using Pointred's WiMAX products. Gemini's other subsidiaries include Sanat Technologies, a storage solution startup which it acquired 51% in (pdf) last year, and Veeras Infotek, a network security solutions company which it aquired 51% in two years ago. Recently, Bharti Airtel inked a deal to acquire Zain Telecom's African operations. Essar has also…
